On Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018, the South Carolina Public Service Commission issued a ruling to disallow certain legal costs Carolina Water Service sought to pass along to customers through rates, among other items of business.
“The Office of Regulatory Staff (ORS) is pleased with the PSC’s decision to further protect ratepayers from significant litigation costs related to Carolina Water Service’s violations of the Clean Water Act ,” Edwards said. “We believe the PSC fairly considered all the available information in this and each of the issues brought before the rehearing, including decisions that did not adopt the ORS position.
“We’re fortunate to have a process of checks and balances in our system that allow decisions to be thoughtfully reconsidered. The ORS appreciates the willingness of the Public Service Commission to reexamine and revise previous rulings. This victory for ratepayers is proof the system works.”
